Obituary for Virginia Lee Detillion (Vanhorn)

Virginia Lee (Ginny) Detillion, age 73, passed away on February the eighth, 2018. She died of natural causes. She is survived by her two sons, William David Lewis (51; currently living in Glendale) and Roger Glenn Detillion (40; currently living in Ohio). She is also survived by five siblings; one sister (Judy Davis (Vanhorn)) and four brothers (Robert, Phillip, Larry, & Woody Vanhorn) all who reside in Ohio. Virginia was her birth name, but to those that knew & loved her she was Ginny. Ginny was born in the town of Kingston, OH. But grew up mainly in rural Kentucky and West Virginia. Her father (William H. Vanhorn; deceased 1982) worked as both a farmer and a coal miner. Her mother (Anne Vanhorn; deceased 2005) was a stay at home mom until they moved to Kingston, Ohio sometime in the early sixties, where she worked at a local restaurant as a waitress. William would take his farm experience and worked at a local nursery outside of the town. After high school Ginny would go on to work as a waitress in a metropolis north of Kingston called Columbus. She would remain a waitress most of her life until around the age of forty when she became a Christian, went to Circleville Bible College in Ohio, and studied to be a missionary. After graduation, she left Ohio for Arizona to work on the Native American Field through World Gospel Mission located in Marion, Indiana. For nearly the remainder of her life she worked on the Navajo and T.O. reservations, as well as a volunteer at Southwest Indian Ministry center (SIM) located in Peoria. At the age of 69 she was diagnosed with COPD and retired from missionary work but continued to volunteer at SIM until earlier this month when she passed away. During her time here in Arizona she touched many lives on both reservations she worked with through her ministry, as well as the many friends she made here in Arizona; she will be greatly missed. A memorial service will take place, Monday the nineteenth (02/19/2018) at 4:00 p.m. at the SIM campus chapel located at 14202 N. 73rd Ave. Anyone is invited to attend. A memorial dinner will take place after the service. Another service will be held some time in March in Ohio where she was originally from. My only blessing is knowing that she is with her Lord & Savior Jesus Christ and that one day we’ll be together in eternity as mother & son. R.I.P.
